Caledon Sisters Make Bears For Sick Children

There are those that believe if everyone does a little a lot can get done, and based on the efforts of two Caledon girls, that appears to be exaclty the case.

Meagan and Makayla are sisters and they had a plan to make teddy bears for sick children. They already had the know-how, what they needed was the money so they took to their neighbourhood streets.

Going door-to-door and selling charms and ribbons, the industrious pair managed to raise $150 allowing them to make even more bears for their deserving peers.

“There are some kids that are less fortunate than us and they don’t have all the stuff that we do, so at least they can have a little bear to talk to or anything when they get sad or mad – this bear that is handmade,” said 10-year-old Meagan.

The industrious duo raised money for nine more bears, but even as they think about making more beyond that number, they’re also having a blast making a difference.

“It’s fun because you get to stuff the bears and give to others and make them all dressed and stuff and make (the kids) feel better,” said 8-year-old Makayla.

But best intentions aside, things really started to look and feel good, when a local business owner heard about what they were trying to do and decided to help them out by providing more bears for the cause at cost.

“I think it’s amazing what they’re doing and just the fact that they’re thinking of other kids instead of themselves,” said Kelly Dash, owner of My Plush Friend.

The girls hope to continue making bears for those in need and those interested in helping can do so by purchasing one and having it sent to them, where they’ll add the special touches that make them perfect gifts for kids in need.

“They come with whatever different colour star, and when you put it in last you make a wish for the kids to get better,” said Meagan.
