Former “Frasier” Star Dies

His name was Moose and he was just 16 and a half years old. That sounds young until you realize the actor in question was the Jack Russell who played “Eddie” on the classic sitcom Frasier.

His trainer confirms the precious pup has died after a lifetime in show biz.

There was no hint in his earlier life that the canine with the intelligent expression would end up with such a dogged career. Moose – named because he was the biggest of a litter of four – had a penchant for chewing furniture, messing up the house and being generally hard to handle.

The Florida family who owned him finally gave him away and he wound being taken in by the manager of a company called Birds and Animals Unlimited, which trains animal actors for TV and movie roles.

When he was sent to a special handler, it soon became apparent he was a quick learner and made for showbiz, beating out all other canine comers to land the Frasier role that would make him famous.

He would also be the star of the Frankie Muniz-movie “My Dog Skip”.

But it wasn’t all a dog’s life. Moose retired part way through the show’s decade-plus run, while keeping it in the family. His role was taken over by his son – an identical dog named Enzo.

He spent the last six and a half years of his life retired, enjoying the fruits of his labour. And like the show he was a part of for so long, 16½ years was a pretty good run.
