Alleged Con Man Accidentally Poses As Hollywood Superstar

There are dumb crooks galore out there.

And then there are the ignorant ones.

A man accused of trying to steal thousands of dollars in unclaimed cash sits in a Dubai prison this week, after an elaborate scam wound up going awry over a not so small detail.

The scam allegedly began when a 29-year-old salesman from Jordan received a tip from his brother, who worked at a currency exchange office. It seems there was $23,000 in transferred cash lying around and the client hadn’t picked it up in three months.

So when it seemed like no one else wanted it, the apparent thief decided he’d try to get it for himself. Cops claim he went to the Internet to look for a likely picture for a fake I.D. using the client’s name.

He found the perfect image and downloaded it, but was caught when an informant turned him in. But it’s not likely he would have gotten away with the scam in any event.

The photo he decided to use? Brad Pitt. The man told police he wasn’t aware of whose picture he’d chosen, proving either he’s not a movie fan or doesn’t read the gossip rags.

He’ll have plenty of time to catch up on those periodicals in jail. He’s been charged with forgery and attempted embezzlement.
