Major Studio Gambles On “Peabody & Sherman” Movie Of Bullwinkle Fame

But would you be willing to sit through an entire feature length movie of Mr. Peabody and Sherman?

DreamWorks, the movie studio partially co-owned by uber-director Steven Spielberg, has confirmed it’s signed a deal to bring the story of the know-it-all dog and his faithful boy companion to the big screen.

The flick, which will be totally computer animated, will update the adventures of the mismatched pair, who became famous for their time travel sojourns in the WABAC machine as part of the 1960 classic cartoon “Rocky and Bullwinkle”.

Previous efforts to bring characters created by the legendary Jay Ward to the screen have fizzled.

A live action-animation movie mix that ‘starred’ the famous moose and squirrel didn’t work and neither did an all live version of “Dudley Do-right”.

But those behind this flick point out it’s all animated and think that will make the difference.

Besides the bespectacled Mr. Peabody’s good breeding, the show promises another excellent pedigree – it will be directed by Ron Minkoff, who found previous success with “The Lion King” and “Stuart Little”.

“‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’ has [a] kind of cross-generational appeal,” maintains the studio’s Bill Damaschke in a statement. “Thanks to Mr. Peabody’s WABAC Machine, the story possibilities are as endless as time itself and we are looking forward to exploring them for the big screen.”

If you’ve forgotten the concept, in each segment, Peabody and Sherman go back to some major historical event in history that’s going wrong and try to set it right. Each adventure ends with what can only be described as the worst pun in history.

If the movie bombs at the box office, they might want to use their time machine to travel back to the day the decision to make the film was made.

But we won’t know for a while how it comes out. There’s no scheduled release date, cast or even a script yet for the project.
