Canada Launches H1N1 Preparedness Guide, Ontario Kicks Off Three-Phase Flu Shot Plan

Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq announced the release of a comprehensive preparedness guide Tuesday in anticipation of the potential spread of H1N1 during flu season.

The guide is designed to provide Canadians with information about the virus as well as steps they can take to protect themselves.

“Every Canadian has a role to play in preventing the spread of the H1N1 flu virus,” said Minister Aglukkaq. “This guide gives Canadians the information they need to make the right decisions to protect themselves and their families.”

The guide can be obtained at www.fightflu.ca or by calling 1-800-O-Canada.

Tuesday also marked the start of Ontario’s three-stop approach to seasonal flu vaccination. People 65 and over as well as those in long-term care are immediately eligible for seasonal flu shots.

The second phase of shots starts in November across the board for H1N1, followed by the final phase of seasonal flu shots for the general public from December to January.
