Pilot Dead In Buttonville Plane Crash

A pilot has died in a crash near Buttonville airport.

The unidentified pilot was the only person onboard the single-engine plane.

The Cessna slammed into an empty parking lot near 16th Avenue and Highway 404 just before 6pm on Sunday.

“I was coming down the 404, home from the cottage, when I saw this plane taking off,” described witness Tom Strezos.

“As it was turning south, it started to tip left and then all of a sudden shot right down into the ground,” he continued.

Transportation Safety Board official Rae Simpson says the plane was used to tow advertising banners and they are investigating.
