Ontario Conservative Wants Remembrance Day Declared Statutory Holiday

An Opposition member of the Ontario legislature wants Remembrance Day declared a statutory holiday.
Progressive Conservative Lisa MacLeod will introduce a private member’s bill to designate November 11 as a holiday.
She says it’s time Ontario recognized Remembrance Day as a holiday, noting 34 per cent of Canada’s war dead in Afghanistan called the province home. The bill would also require every school in Ontario to hold a Remembrance Day service on the last day of classes before November 11.
MacLeod says Remembrance Day would replace Ontario’s three-year-old “Family Day” holiday in February.
There are two separate Facebook groups with hundreds of thousands of members calling for Remembrance Day to be declared a statutory holiday in Ontario.
