Honouring ‘The Voice’: Nominate Mark Dailey for a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame

When CityNews anchor Mark Dailey lost his battle with kidney cancer, the condolences poured in from friends and strangers alike – both here in Toronto and worldwide.

In his 30-year career, “The Voice” had not only become an iconic and trusted newscaster, but he had also won over the people of Toronto with his razor-sharp wit and unfailing integrity.

Join Citytv in nominating Mark for a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and for the Canadian Legend Award at http://www.canadaswalkoffame.com/nomination. Nominations will be accepted until April 30.

“He taught us all the meaning of professionalism and how to develop a love of the task at hand,” fellow CityNews anchor Gord Martineau said after Mark’s passing. “In addition to that, his sense of comedic timing was always offered at just the right time to take the stress away from the job. He was a true original.”

Tina Cortese, Citytv Vice President, News/Executive Producer, said: “Mark was a Citytv original and an exceptional broadcaster.  No matter the story, no matter the assignment, Mark Dailey could deliver — a producer’s dream and so deserving of a star on our walk of fame.”

Mark will be remembered as much for his ad-libbed introductions to Great Movies on Citytv as he will for his baritone delivery, his numerous accolades – the most recent, a posthumous RTNDA Lifetime Achievement Award – and his community service.

After successfully fighting prostate cancer in 2004, Mark advocated for early screening as the spokesperson for Prostate Cancer Canada.

He worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Salvation Army, St. John Ambulance, Sick Kids Hospital, and the Alzheimer Society, among others.

On Sept. 8, of last year, Mark revealed on CityNews that he had been diagnosed with kidney cancer. He died less than three months later. Mark is survived by his wife, Kim Dailey, and his daughter, Nicole.
