Two cyclists hit by car in Mississauga during charity bike ride

Two cyclists were hit by a car that apparently ignored a barrier during the Ride to Conquer Cancer Saturday morning.

The run-in happened as the cyclists were passing through the intersection of Dixie and Rathburn Roads in Mississauga.

Both cyclists walked away from the incident with minor injuries.

“Just bumps and bruises. I’ll probably feel pretty not well for the next 12 hours or so but my head feels ok and I was really lucky,” cyclist Rick Pais said.

“It could have been a lot worse.”

The riders continued on in the charity event that wraps up Sunday in Niagara Falls. The $17.5 million raised goes to cancer research at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

An organizer of the charity event said possible security improvements will be considered, including beefing up the police presence at some major intersections Sunday.

Peel Police investigated the incident and confirms no charges will be laid.
