Conservatives gather in Ottawa to plan for fall

The majority Conservatives have gathered in Ottawa to look ahead to the next parliamentary session.

Although their political opposition is in shambles, the Harper government doesn’t expect an easy autumn.

Global economic turbulence has the party concerned and its main priority will be keeping Canada’s economy chugging along.

Caucus chair Guy Lauzon says that’s also the focus of the messages most MPs will be delivering from their constituents.

A key challenge will be how the government can continue to stimulate the economy while at the same time slash the deficit.

The Tories will also discuss how to move ahead with some campaign promises, like axing the gun registry and bringing in an omnibus justice bill.
