Councillors vote in favour of fare hike for Mississauga Transit

Mississauga commuters will soon have to contend with a fare hike and service cuts.

The city council voted in favour of a 25-cent hike at the fare box and reduced service on some bus routes with low ridership.

A cash fare will now cost $3.25, the cost of adult tickets, weekly, monthly, and yearly passes, as well as senior tickets are also going up.

Student and child fares will remain unchanged.

The fare hike takes effect Jan. 30 and was put in place to avert a property tax hike.

Councillors also voted in favour of reducing or eliminating service on routes with low ridership, including the 33 Erin Centre Loop, which is being cut entirely. Service levels are being lowered on five other routes.
