Boyfriend charged in woman’s murder

A man is charged with second-degree murder after a woman’s body was discovered inside a Leaside home on New Year’s Day.

Police were called to the home at 211 Airdrie Rd., near Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Drive, on Sunday for a missing person’s call. That’s when they found the body of 46-year-old Lisa Lebitka.

She reportedly lived at the home with her boyfriend, Paul Hindle, and three children from her previous marriage.

Hindle has subsequently been charged. The 46-year-old appeared in court Tuesday and the case was put over to Jan. 17.

Lebitka’s brother-in-law Mark Thompson made a statement outside the Airdrie home at 2 p.m.

“The children are safe and with their father, who is in no way implicated,” Thompson said.

All three children are under the age of 11, he said.

“This is an extremely tragic time…please respect our privacy,” he said, and thanked the Leaside community for love and support.

Police are also investigating three other murders in the GTA. Michael Pimentel, 24, and Jamal Franklin, 20, were killed in separate incidents in Toronto on Jan. 1. On Monday night, Hilda Roelink, 58, was fatally stabbed in King Township.
