Crashes snarled traffic on busy Hwy. 427 & 404 ramps

Two separate tractor-trailer crashes closed three busy highway ramps, snarling traffic during the morning rush Thursday.

Police closed the north and southbound ramps from Highway 427 to the westbound 401 after a tractor-trailer hauling aluminum siding rolled on the 427’s southbound ramp. The crash blocked all access to the 401 but the ramps reopened around 11:30 a.m. after a seven-hour closure.

“What we we’re going to try and do is not do the investigation here, get it out so we can open up traffic and then continue the investigation afterwards off scene,” OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said.

The rig’s driver suffered minor injuries in the crash that happened around 4 a.m.

Another tractor-trailer rollover that happened around 3 a.m. closed the ramp from the southbound Highway 404 to the eastbound 401. The ramp reopened just over five hours later.

The driver suffered minor injuries.
