2nd woman hurt in TTC bus crash

Two women were injured in separate crashes involving TTC buses on Wednesday.

A woman in her early 60s was pinned between a bus and a pole around 2:30 p.m. near Queen and Leslie streets.

Both the woman and the bus driver were taken to hospital after the Leslieville crash. The driver appeared to be in shock. The woman was conscious and breathing when she was taken to hospital.

The 501 streetcar was diverting around the crash site.

Several hours earlier, a car and a bus collided on Lawrence Avenue East near Warden Avenue in Scarborough just before 9 a.m.

The victim, who was in the car, suffered head injuries and has been taken to Sunnybrook hospital. There’s no word yet on what caused the crash.

Lawrence was closed between Tower and Lillian drives for the investigation.

It’s the third incident involving a TTC bus in two days.

A TTC bus was involved in another accident on Tuesday evening in the west end.

An 82-year-old woman suffered critical injuries when she was hit by the bus at Ossington Avenue and Davenport Road.

Witnesses say the woman was helped by a quick-thinking Good Samaritan.

“One gentleman that was on the bike, he pretty much saved her life. He took off his belt and held pressure to her leg,” said witness Cathia Carvalho.

Despite the incidents, the TTC says safety is a top priority.

“Safety for our customers, for pedestrians, cyclists, other motorists, is paramount,” said TTC spokesman Brad Ross.
