Driver hurt when steel chunk hits windshield on Hwy. 401

A driver suffered minor injuries when a piece of steel debris crashed through the windshield of his car on Highway 401 Wednesday morning.

Police said the incident happened around 6 a.m. on the eastbound lanes near Weston Road.

The three-centimetre piece of steel that hit the car was likely kicked up by a passing vehicle. The driver suffered a minor head wound. It’s not known if he was hurt by the steel or broken glass from the windshield.

The incident didn’t affect traffic in the area.

Police were also called to remove a large rock from the middle of a busy road in Etobicoke Wednesday morning.

City crews removed a 500-pound rock from the middle of The East Mall, near Dundas. Authorities don’t know where the rock came from or how it got there.
