E. coli fears prompt ground beef recall

Several ground beef products have been recalled due to E. coli fears.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people not to eat XL Foods products sold under various brands, including Kirkland Signature and Safeway, because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

There have been no illnesses reported due to the recall.

Food contaminated with E. coli may not look or smell spoiled but can cause potentially life-threatening illness. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. It can also cause seizures or strokes in some people and can lead to permanent kidney damage.
