More beef products yanked from shelves as recall continues to expand

Canada’s food safety watchdog is expanding the list of ground beef products potentially tainted with E. Coli.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a new list of products made with meat from Edmonton-based XL Foods.

The recalled products include pre-packaged meat loaf, meat balls and sausages, as well as other units of ground beef.

The latest expansion covers products carried at Metro, Safeway and Walmart stores in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

Earlier this week, the agency issued a list of recalled products that spanned the entire country and involved retail giants including Real Canadian Super Store, Giant Tiger and Sobeys.

The CFIA says no E. Coli cases have been reported in connection with the recall, but Alberta public health is currently investigating five infections that have not formally been linked to tainted beef.
