Crews extinguish fire after Oakville garage explosion

Oakville fire fighters worked quickly to extinguish a blaze after an explosion in a garage.

It happened at a home on Douglas Avenue around 8:30 p.m., Saturday.

Platoon Chief Ken Cutmore told CityNews neighbours called 9-11 after they heard an explosion.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the garage.

“Our crews got here very quickly and were able to knock the fire down quickly through the garage door,” said Cutmore.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire.

Cutmore says the explosion came from a gas can inside the garage.

“We found a gas can in there. We’re not sure what the cause but the gas can is what exploded.”

An investigation will be conducted to determine what caused the gas can to explode.
