Pedestrian killed by VIA train

GO Train service on the Lakeshore West line has resumed after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a VIA train east of Burlington GO Station, Wednesday.
Officials with VIA say Train 75 left Toronto at 5:30 p.m. headed for Windsor, and it was just before 6:30 p.m. that it hit the pedestrian.
“There’s a trespasser fatality that was confirmed, it happened at mile 30.5 in the Oakville area near Burlington GO Station,” Mylene Belanger with VIA Rail said.
The 185 passengers are still on board the train as police investigate. There has been no word on when they will be allowed to leave.
“They are in the train at a place not accessible to detrain them,” Belanger said.
Trains were turning around at Appleby Station as an investigation into the death was conducted, officials with the transit agency said.
GO buses shuttled passengers between Appleby and Hamilton for several hours.
Service on the GO Lakeshore West line resumed around 11:30 p.m.
There has been no word on the age, sex or identity of the victim, nor speculation into what may have happened.
