Maple Leaf Gardens convicted pedophile faces more charges

Gordon Stuckless, one of the men convicted in the Maple Leaf Gardens sexual abuse scandal, is facing more charges, Toronto police announced on Thursday.

Police arrested Stuckless, 63, on Thursday in connection to a historic sexual assault investigation. He’s facing eight new charges, including six counts of indecent assault of a male, assault and possession of a weapon.

“Two men just recently came forward,” explained Const. Tony Vella. “Back when they were 11 and 13 years of age…in the early 70s, it’s alleged that the accused sexually assaulted both boys at the time.”

Stuckless was convicted in 1997 for sexually assaulting 24 boys over several years while he worked at Maple Leaf Gardens. Those attacks happened between 1969 and 1988. He served two-thirds of his five-year sentence and was paroled in February 2001.

John Paul Roby, an usher at the arena, was convicted in the same scandal in 1999. He died in prison in 2001.

Martin Kruze, the victim who came forward with the abuse allegations, killed himself in October 1997.

In the latest charges, police allege Stuckless sexually assaulted an 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy at a school, a community centre and “various other locations in Toronto,” in the late 1970s.

The alleged assaults happened while Stuckless worked as a teacher and volunteer at community centres and sports clubs.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Stuckless is due in court on March 22.
