Woman seriously hurt in crash with TTC bus

A 53-year-old woman is in critical condition after a crash with a TTC bus in Etobicoke, EMS confirms.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, the woman was driving on Royal York Road, near Lake Shore Boulevard West, when her car sped past another car at a stop sign. Her car then plowed into the side of the bus, which had made a routine stop.

“I just seen the car, I seen her try to move and I instructed everyone to leave her, keep her seatbelt on and don’t open the door,” Erin Collins who witnessed the crash told CityNews.

Collins, who has first aid training, said the woman responded to her questions but her lower body was pinned and her leg was obviously broken.

Paramedics took the woman to St. Michael’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A man on the bus was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

“Had the bus not been there, consequences could have been much worse,” Sgt. Murray Campbell told CityNews. “There’s a house directly behind the bus and she could have went into the side of the house.”

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash but say they have ruled out alcohol as a factor.
