Accused in TTC subway knife attack faces more charges

The man accused of attacking another passenger on the TTC subway last month is now facing additional charges, including assaulting a second transit rider.
The new charges were laid against Cassim Cummings, 20, during a court appearance on Tuesday.
In addition to existing charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault, Cummings is now charged with two counts of assault and one count of threatening bodily harm.
The new charges stem from an incident at Finch subway station on Feb. 1, where he is accused of choking and threatening a man, and an incident at North York Civic Centre on Feb. 12, where he is accused of repeatedly punching a security guard.
Cumming was originally in court for a bail hearing on attempted murder and aggravated assault charges after a 35-year-old Barrie man was slashed in the neck on Feb. 27.
Police allege Cummings boarded a TTC train at Eglinton station around 10 p.m. and began yelling at and harassing other riders.
Cummings and the victim were on a southbound train approaching Davisville station when the victim stood up as if to speak to Cummings. Before the victim could say a word, Cummings slashed him, police claim.
The victim, whose name hasn’t been disclosed, suffered serious, but non life-threatening injuries.
