Police investigate attempted abduction outside Ajax public school

Durham police are warning residents about an alleged attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl outside an Ajax public school earlier this week.

A man allegedly approached the girl outside Applecroft Public School, near Magill Drive and Westney Road, around 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

He told her he was sent by her mother to pick her up, and pointed to his vehicle in the school parking lot.  The girl noticed a woman waiting in the passenger seat of the car.

Instead of getting in the car, the girl found her parents and reported the incident.

Police are now searching for the man, the woman and their car.

The man is described as white, unshaven, with a medium build. He was wearing a grey hat, blue scarf and green jacket with red and black high-top sneakers.

The woman is also white, possibly in her late teens or early 20s with long blonde hair. She was wearing a purple and pink hat.

The vehicle is a small, blue-grey two-door sedan with a noticeable dent on the rear bumper to the left of the license plate.

Calls to the school were referred to the Durham District School Board, who did not immediately return requests for comment.
