Man arrested in west-end TD Bank robbery: police

A Brampton man has been arrested in Sunday’s brazen daylight TD Bank robbery in the west end during which two innocent bystanders were shot, Toronto police say.

Andre Palmer, 26, who faces several charges, including robbery while armed with a firearm, attempted murder and aggravated assault, was arrested Monday afternoon in Brampton without incident, Staff Insp. Mike Earl of the hold-up squad said Tuesday afternoon.

A second man believed to be the shooter has not been arrested yet, Earl said.

Two people, a teller and a customer, were shot during the heist at a St. Clair Avenue West bank, east of Jane Street. Both remain in hospital but are expected to recover.

On Monday, police released security camera video of the robbery and the Canadian Bankers Association offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to their arrest and conviction.

Bank surveillance video footage showed two men storm the bank, one brandishing a silver handgun. Neither man is wearing a mask, and their faces were visible.

“We want him off the streets,” Earl said, of the second suspect. “Obviously this individual fired a loaded handgun in a bank robbery injuring two people. We want to apprehend this guy as soon as possible.”

Palmer is expected to make a court appearance on Tuesday afternoon in Toronto.
