David Bowie exhibit at AGO this fall

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) announced Tuesday that it will be the first North American stop for the David Bowie art exhibit, David Bowie is, which debuts in Toronto this fall.

The acclaimed exhibit officially opened at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum in late March and will open here on Sept. 25.

The two-month exhibit will feature Bowie’s collaboration with other artists in fashion, music, art and film collections. Items will be taken from his personal archive and include more than 300 objects collected over a period of five decades.

The British glam rocker, whose real name is David Robert Jones, was born in London in 1947 and rose to international fame in 1969 with his hit song Space Oddity.

Since then he has sold more than 140 million albums and continues to be viewed as one of music’s biggest pioneers.

David Bowie is will allow fans to finally be able to delve into the groundbreaking world and creativity that propelled Bowie into the spotlight more than 40 years ago.

The exhibit will include more than 50 of Bowie’s flamboyant and often androgynous stage costumes, including his 1972 Ziggy Stardust bodysuits, music videos, photographs, original album artwork and handwritten setlists and lyrics.

The exhibit goes until Nov. 27. The only other confirmed North American stop for the Bowie exhibit is at the Museum of Image and Sound in São Paolo next January, the AGO said.
