1 dead in Hwy. 407 crash

A man is dead after a crash on Highway 407 in York Region on Saturday morning.

He was driving west just before 8 a.m., when his dump truck hit the centre median just before Bathurst Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved.

“We don’t know why the dump truck lost control,” said Const. Lisa MacIntyre.

“The dump portion of the truck actually came unattached. It was loaded with dirt and that is spread across the highway.”

All westbound lanes of Highway 407 are closed from Bayview Avenue to Dufferin Street, and police said they should reopen around 4 p.m. Two eastbound lanes are also shut down for the cleanup.

This is the fourth death on GTA roads in a matter of hours.

An adult and a child were killed in a two-vehicle crash around 9 p.m. Friday on Highway 50 in Brampton.

And around the same time, a 13-year-old girl died in hospital after she was hit by a car on Bloor Street, near Dixie Road, in Mississauga.
