Nordik Group to open spa in Whitby’s Cullen Central Park

Canada’s famed Nordik Spa-Nature is set to open its newest location in Whitby’s Cullen Central Park.

Construction of the spa, which has another location in Chelsea, Que., will begin next summer and will open in summer 2015.

Nordik Group CEO Martin Paquette is behind the spa’s move to the park, which prior to being purchased by the Town of Whitby in 2006 was known as Cullen Gardens & Miniature Village, a popular tourist attraction. He said the new location was championed by a Whitby businessman who got the idea to open a spa after experiencing the one in Chelsea.

“The Cullen Gardens park charmed us from the beginning. When we choose a location for a new spa, it has to be surrounded by nature while being close to a city center, two requirements which were met by this place,” said Daniel Gingras, Nordik Group’s vice-president of business development and marketing, in a news release on Thursday. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to give a second life to this enchanting site.”

Backed by a more than $12 million investment, Nordik Group will construct the year-round spa facility on three of the 34.6 hectare Cullen property, as well as take over the main building.

Nordik Group estimates that more than 200 jobs will be created once the project is completed.

Nordik Spa-Nature locations offer natural scenery in wooded havens with easy access to urban areas, creating an enchanting experience for its visitors, the company said. Another spa is planned for Winnepeg in the fall.

The spa offers guests the complete Scandinavian-inspired spa experience with thermal baths and saunas, waterfalls and relaxation areas with soothing sounds of relaxing music.

The Whitby spa will also offer massage therapy and body treatments, as well as a restaurant and lounge, all open year-round and seven days a week.
