Canadian among 8 missing boaters rescued off Honduras

The mother of a British Columbia woman who went missing on Saturday while boating off the coast of Honduras says she is “ecstatic”‘ her daughter has been rescued.

Tasha Brown, a 20-year-old woman from Grand Forks was one of eight boaters, along with two Americans and five Hondurans, who were found Wednesday morning.

Brown’s mother, Natalie Zmurchyk, said she spoke with her daughter on a cellphone Wednesday afternoon and says she is in “fairly good shape.”

Zmurchyk said the group of boaters ran out of gas during what was supposed to be a short boat trip.

U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Gabe Somma said the 8.5-metre boat was spotted about 110 kilometres from the western edge of Roatan, Honduras.

The search for the boaters also included the Honduran navy and aircraft attached to the U.S. Southern Command in Honduras.
