Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts among stars attending TIFF

The Toronto International Film Festival is rolling out the red carpet for the slew of stars scheduled to attend next month’s extravaganza.

Hollywood heavyweights Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Hugh Jackman will all appear during the 38th annual film festival from Sept. 5 to 15, organizers said Tuesday, and they’ll be joined by homegrown talent like Taylor Kitsch, Mike Myers and Bruce McDonald.

Festival artistic director Cameron Bailey said there were two celebrities he was looking forward to seeing.

“Meryl Streep, never met the woman, she hasn’t been to the festival in a long time and she’s terrific in August: Osage County. I can’t wait to meet her,” Bailey told CityNews.

August: Osage County, which also stars Roberts, will premier at the festival and Bailey said it’s rare to see stars of that calibre in the same movie.

“Another personal favourite is Scarlett Johannson, who is in two films this year, Under the Skin and Don Jon. She’s terrific in both and they’re totally different roles.”

Gordon Pinsent, Jennifer Aniston, directors Steven Soderbergh and Don McKellar, Nicole Kidman and Michael Fassbender are also scheduled to attend. Click here to see TIFF’s photo gallery of the stars attending this year.

TIFF had already announced its opening night films, galas and other specials, and the full schedule was released on Tuesday. Click here to see it.

Single tickets go on sale Sept. 1 and tickets can be purchased online.
