2 face charges after altercation at Oshawa council meeting

Two men are facing charges after a violent altercation took place during a city council meeting in Oshawa Tuesday night.

Police say during the meeting a number of people were causing a disturbance and two men became argumentative.

A security guard who attempted to help remove one of the men from the meeting was assaulted and suffered minor injuries, police say. The incident was caught on video.

Undercover officers on scene placed both men in custody.

Daniel Hammond, 52, of no fixed address, and William Steele, 46, of Oshawa, have been charged with assault and failing to leave premises when directed.

Video of the arrest taken by a person at the meeting was posted on YouTube and showed a third man being escorted off the premises by police but no charges were laid against him. (Warning video contains offensive language.)
