‘August: Osage County’ to premiere on TIFF Day 5

Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and man-of-the-festival Benedict Cumberbatch will be on hand for the premiere of August: Osage County Monday.

Toronto International Film Festival artistic director Cameron Bailey said Streep was one of the actors he was most looking forward to seeing.

“Meryl Streep, never met the woman, she hasn’t been to the festival in a long time and she’s terrific in August: Osage County. I can’t wait to meet her,” Bailey told CityNews last month.

Cumberbatch, meanwhile, was at the opening night of TIFF for his film The Fifth Estate and later appeared on the red carpet for 12 Years a Slave. He’s appeared at parties around the city, leading Bailey to call him the “man of the festival” in an interview with Breakfast Television’s Dina Pugliese.

August: Osage County will screen at Roy Thomson Hall at 6 p.m.

Also on Monday, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are expected at the TIFF Bell Lightbox for the news conference for their new film Gravity.

Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, is a suspense-filled thriller following two astronauts on a spacewalk that goes horribly wrong.

Canadian astronaut Dr. Roberta Bondar was at Sunday’s premiere – click here for the video.

Later Monday,  Third Person and Blood Ties will premiere.

Third Person is the latest from Canadian Paul Haggis, who directed and wrote the romantic comedy. James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, Liam Neeson and Adrian Brody all star – and are all expected on the red carpet at the Elgin Theatre.

Blood Ties, starring Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Marion Cotillard and Kunis, is a remake of a 2008 French thriller. Directed by Guillaume Canet, the film follows two brothers, played by Owen and Crudup. Owen’s character has just been released from jail, while Crudup is a cop.

And country-pop superstar Taylor Swift is expected to walk the red carpet for One Chance. She wrote a song for the film, which tells the story of Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts. Potts is played by James Corden.

One Chance will screen at the Winter Garden Theatre at 6 p.m.
