Warning for pet owners after suspicious substance found in Danforth park

Toronto police have issued a warning for pet owners after a suspicious substance was found in a Danforth-area park on Monday.

One person found hot dogs mixed with an unknown substance at Oakvale Green Park, near Greenwood Avenue.

No other substances were found, police said, and no illnesses have been reported.

Rishi Lukka, who walks his dog Nala in the park every other day, says he doesn’t understand how anyone could harm an animal.

“I think people can be really heartless and selfish and I don’t really know why people would want to hurt animals,” said Lukka.

He estimates over 100 dogs frequent the park daily.

Police say pets should be kept on a leash and people should not touch or collect any suspicious items. Instead, call police.
