Dead batteries, old tires to be collected at CAA recycle drive

If you’ve got junk lying around your house, the Canadian Automobile Association wants to help you do some fall cleaning.

The CAA’s “2013 RecycleDrive” will collect items — such as dead household and marine batteries, used motor oil and old tires — for free and make sure they are recycled properly and safely.

These items should not be placed in recycling and garbage bins because they contain harmful chemicals, which can contaminate the soil and groundwater.

The CAA South Central Ontario teamed up with Ontario Tire Stewardship for the recycle drive, which starts Tuesday and runs until Oct. 31.

You can drop off the items at select CAA-approved auto repair services. Click here for a list of locations.
