Beyonce drops in on Walmart shoppers after Target refuses to sell album

Superstar Beyonce surprised Walmart shoppers in Boston on Friday night by dropping in unannounced and handing out gift cards.

“I wanted to give everyone a little gift. For everyone in this store right now, the first $50 of your holiday gifts are on me,” she announced over the PA system to loud cheers.

“Merry, merry Christmas from Beyonce.”

There were about 750 customers in the store at the time.

Earlier this week, Walmart competitor Target said it wouldn’t carry Beyonce’s latest album, which she released exclusively on iTunes with no promotion.

Target said Beyonce’s decision to release her album digitally before offering a CD affects their demand and sales projections.

Amazon has also decided not to carry the CD, although the MP3 is available to download on its site.

Beyonce debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold almost 829,000 copies in its first three days.
