Driver gets hypothermia following Hwy. 404 mishap

A man suffered hypothermia after being trapped in his crumpled pickup truck on Highway 404 near Wellington Street East in Aurora for four hours.

A snowplow driver found the man around 10 a.m. on Wednesday after his Dodge Dakota pickup went over the guardrail and into a ditch between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.

The pickup’s doors were torn off and the windows smashed, exposing him to the extreme cold.

The 52-year-old man was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital with possible life-threatening injuries, the OPP said. His identity hasn’t been disclosed.
