Part of Keele remains closed after police arrest potential gunman

There were some tense moments on Keele Street on Wednesday after part of the street was closed off for a police investigation into a potentially armed man.

The man barricaded himself in a unit of a housing complex on Keele Street, near St. Clair Avenue.

An armoured vehicle and snipers were brought in during the standoff.

Officers fired six canisters of gas into the unit occupied by the suspect.

The man was taken out of the building on a stretcher shortly before 5 p.m. and rushed to a downtown hospital.

There has been no word on the extent of his injuries.

A portion of Keele remains shutdown between St. Clair Avenue and Dundas Street.
