Ontario drivers to vote on worst road in annual CAA campaign

The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) launched its annual Worst Roads in Ontario campaign on Tuesday morning.

Over the next four weeks drivers can vote for the roads they think are most in need of repair or redesign.

The CAA will hand over the list of the Top 10 worst roads and its recommendations to local and provincial officials in the hopes of getting those roads fixed.

In 2013, Dufferin Street in Toronto was voted the province’s worst road, followed by Burlington Avenue East in Hamilton and Finch Avenue West.

Besides Dufferin, four Toronto streets made the Top 10: Lawrence Avenue East came in at No. 6; Finch Avenue West at No. 8; Kingston Road was No. 9; and Bayview Avenue was No. 10.

Dufferin was also voted the worst road in 2012.

City staff in Toronto says this is one of the worst years for potholes. As of Feb. 12, road crews have already filled about 33,000 potholes so far this season, compared with about 14,000 on that date last season.

About 188,000 potholes were repaired last year at a cost of $3.6 million.
