Former NCAA basketball star among 2 charged in Malvern mom’s murder

A former NCAA basketball star is one of two men accused of killing a Malvern mother of four in a brazen shooting Saturday night that police believe was targeted.
Andrea White, 33, was in the garage of her townhouse on Forest Creek Pathway — near Morningside and Old Finch avenues — with family and friends when she was hit by gunfire from a passing SUV.
Toronto police believe a white Land Rover drove south past the house, pulled a U-turn and drove up to the house again around 11 p.m.
Someone inside the car fired a gun through the passenger window.
Michael Davani, 21, and Alwayne Bigby, 23, have both been charged with first-degree murder and were remanded in custody.
Bigby played basketball for Northeastern University and the University of Rhode Island and was reportedly working towards a Master Degree. As a teen he played for Eastern Commerce in Toronto.
Family and friends helped White into the house, where she soon collapsed and died. White had lived in the home with her common-law husband for 10 years and had no criminal record.
“Andrea was one of the strongest women that we’ve ever had the honour of knowing and loving,” said the victim’s cousin, Tammy Wilkinson. “She was the type of mother and wife that other women strive to be.”
“She was a wife, a mother, a sister and a friend to everybody she met.”
A motive has not been established.
“I believe that this was a targeted shooting,” said Det. Dave Dickinson. “Whether the house was targeted is still part of our investigation. It could be the community targeted — a couple of people with guns just firing off randomly.”
