Toronto hit by record-low temperatures on Wednesday

Toronto was hit by record-low temperatures on Wednesday, 680News meteorologist Jill Taylor said, with the mercury dipping to -6.4 C at Pearson International Airport.
The previous record of -5.6 C was set on April 16, 1980.
“We’ll see plenty of sunshine on Wednesday but we’re well below average,” Taylor said.
“Our guaranteed high is just 4 C. We should be closer to 12 C.”
Meanwhile, at Buttonville airport, another record low was recorded. It was -7.1 C, colder than the -3.5 set in 1988.
The cold temperatures are a continuation of the winter-like blast the GTA saw on Tuesday. However, it’s unlikely the region snow and freezing rain will fall again.
An Arctic cold front passed through southern Ontario, resulting in temperatures plunging to below the freezing mark early on Tuesday morning.
Another disturbance that tracked alongside the cold front brought with it freezing rain, ice pellets and snow.
The precipitation started with rain, then ice pellets and some freezing rain, and then turned to snow.
But spring is set to make a return on the weekend: There’s a high of 18 C in store for Sunday.
