5 things to do this weekend: Hot Docs, TOJam & The Babytime Show

Hot Docs: The long-running documentary festival kicked off on Thursday night and runs until May 4. On Friday night, a free talk at the TIFF Bell Lightbox highlights the impact documentaries have had on viewers, with several filmmakers invited to speak. Toronto Game Jam: Ever wanted to create your own video game? Now’s your chance at TOJam, a three-day development event. Get a team together or compete individually to create — and complete — a unique game in a short time frame. More than 450 gamers are expected to attend the ninth-annual event  George Brown College, School of Design, 341 King St. E. Friday-Sunday. Free. tojam.ca

The Babytime Show: The 16th annual event dedicated to all things parenting features seminars from experts, vendors with the latest in baby gear, and entertainment for the under-five set. Children can meet Dora the Explorer and other characters while parents receive pregnancy and parenting tips. International Centre, Hall 5. 6900 Airport Rd., Mississauga. Etsy Pop-Up: Incredibly popular online retailer Etsy — a market for handmade, vintage, and small-batch products — will get a brick-and-mortar location in Toronto this weekend. Local designers will be featured in the temporary popup store, with products chosen by Chatelaine editor Emma Reddington. West Elm, 109 Atlantic Ave. Saturday. 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. Free. facebook.com.

FAT Fashion: FAT Fashion Art Toronto presents Arts and Fashion Week, a celebration of clothing as art. More than 200 artists, from designers to visual artists to musicians, will participate in runway shows, photography exhibits and live performances during the five-day event.
