Remains of baby found in North York storm drain

Autopsy results are expected Tuesday after the gruesome discovery of partial remains of a newborn baby in a North York Park.

The remains were found in a storm drain on Monday.

The coroner confirmed that the baby was under a month old when he or she died.

The discovery was made shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday at Heathrow Park in the Jane Street and Wilson Avenue area by city road workers who were clearing the drain.

Officials said the last time the drain was cleaned was two weeks ago.

Homicide police were dispatched and the coroner was called to the scene.

Police have a lot of ground to cover because the remains were found in a culvert with water and debris that can come from Exbury Road to the north. Exbury is about halfway between Wilson and Sheppard, east of Jane Street.

Police are asking the public to contact them if they’ve noticed someone who may have given birth recently but haven’t seen a baby.
