City to consider raising section of DVP: report

The city may have a plan to alleviate the chronic flooding on the Don Valley Parkway.

According to a report in the Toronto Star, the City of Toronto and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority are studying the possibility of raising a section of the DVP, on the southern portion of the roadway.

Some argue this would help prevent flooding from the Don River during severe rainstorms.

However, such a project would run in the hundreds of millions and lead to more construction closures and gridlock.

Other options are to create reservoirs, widen or deepen channels, and build flood walls.

GO Transit has also been working with the TRCA to shore up the embankments along the Don River.

Last summer a flood in the valley stranded a GO Train and its passengers for hours.

GO is also looking at more longer-terms solutions.
