Man dies after skydiving accident north of Toronto

A 39-year-old man is dead after a skydiving accident in Georgina.

York Regional police say the man, who was reportedly an experienced skydiver, was parachuting with the Parachute School of Toronto around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when the incident happened.

Police say the man’s parachute did open but he suffered fatal injuries on landing. The man’s name has not been released.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Insp. Stu Betts told 680News this is not the first fatal skydive accident has happened at the school.

“We have had other parachutists have unfortunate accidents here that have resulted in death, the most recent one being several months ago in May in which a young lady lost her life in a skydiving mishap,” he explained.

Another man died in a skydiving accident last year.
