3 bids made for Buffalo Bills ownership, including Toronto group: report

Rocker Jon Bon Jovi and his Toronto group were one of three bids made to buy the Buffalo Bills, according to a published report.

Sun Media, quoting a source closely involved in the bidding process, reports the other bids include gas and oil multi-billionaire Terry Pegula, the current owner of the Buffalo Sabres, and Donald Trump.

The deadline was 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Associated Press reports Trump said it’s unlikely he will actually become the Bills’ owner.

“I would say the chances are very, very unlikely, because I’m not going to do something totally stupid,” Trump said. “Maybe just a little bit stupid, but not totally stupid.”

The Toronto group also includes Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment chairman Larry Tanenbaum and members of the Rogers family. The group has reportedly been scouting stadium sites in Toronto and Mississauga in recent weeks.

The team is valued at over US$870 million by Forbes magazine, and the Toronto bid is estimated to be as high as $1.2 billion.

The new owner, which could be announced as early as late August, would be required to keep the team in Buffalo until the end of the 2022 season.
