1 dead, another injured after hit by SUV at Queen & Parliament

A 60-year-old man is dead and a 48-year-old man is injured after being struck by an SUV early Monday morning in the city’s east end.

The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. on Queen Street East at Power Street, east of Parliament Street, outside a homeless shelter.

The vehicle was heading east when it veered off the road and onto the sidewalk, and struck the two pedestrians who were standing on the sidewalk outside the shelter. The second man received minor injuries

It appears the victim was staying at the homeless shelter and had just stepped outside to have a cigarette.

The driver remained on the scene, and no changes have been laid. Police are looking to speak to any witnesses.

The area was closed off for the police investigation, but has since reopened.
