Markham homicide victim identified, police say

A woman, who was found outside her residence in Markham and died of her injuries on Friday, has been identified, York regional police say.

Aleeya Raza, 28, was found on Norbury Drive, in the 14th Avenue and Markham Road area, around 6:15 a.m. She was found with obvious signs of trauma and died of her injures in hospital.

Police are asking for any witnesses who have yet to be interviewed by police to come forward.

Raza was a resident of the home, police say. Neighbours in the area say the house was being used as a rental.

CityNews found multiple postings online, advertising single-occupancy rooms for rent at the address – one as recent as mid-October.

Officials from the City of Markham have confirmed that the property was known to them and was the subject of complaints and investigations.
