Oshawa woman charged with murder in Markham homicide

An Oshawa woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a Markham woman who was found outside her residence.

Aleeya Raza, 28, was found on Norbury Drive, in the 14th Avenue and Markham Road area, around 6:15 a.m. on Nov. 28. She was found with obvious signs of trauma and died of her injuries in hospital.

Heather Speed, 34, of Oshawa, was arrested and charged on Wednesday. No further details were provided.

Police say an additional suspect, a male believed to be known to the accused, is still being sought.

Neighbours in the area have said the house where Raza lived was being used as a rental.

CityNews found multiple postings online, advertising single-occupancy rooms for rent at the address – one as recent as mid-October.

Officials from the City of Markham have confirmed that the property was known to them and was the subject of complaints and investigations.

Police are asking for any witnesses who have yet to be interviewed by police to come forward.
