Baby safe after stolen vehicle found in Mississauga

There were some frightening moments for a parent after her vehicle was stolen with a nine-month-old baby in the backseat.

Peel regional police say the car was taken from a gas station in Mississauga, near Rexwood and Derry roads, just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Around 40 minutes later, the vehicle was found abandoned, with the child inside, across the street from the gas station.

“The child is healthy and in good condition,” Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick said, and is being checked out by paramedics as a precaution.

Fitzpatrick said parents need to be careful.

“If you’re leaving your vehicle, even if it’s just for that 30 seconds, make sure that the vehicle is not running, that it is locked and secure, as well as all the windows locked and secure, and make sure you take your keys with you,” he said.

Police aren’t saying if the car was locked or running when it was stolen.

The suspect is still at-large.
