Vigil held Sunday for girl fatally struck by TTC bus

Friends and family came together on Sunday to remember the life of a 14-year-old girl who was fatally struck in a hit-and-run involving a TTC bus.

Amaria Diljohn was crossing the street at Finch Avenue East and Neilson Road just before 6 p.m. on Friday when she was hit. The bus failed to remain on scene.

Diljohn suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A vigil began at 5 p.m. at the corner where the young girl spent her last moments.

Family members say Diljohn was making her way home from the last day of school before Christmas break when she was struck.

“For her life to literally be cut short like that is just so horrible,” the girl’s aunt Geana Moore said.

She said the tragedy is shocking.

“Just to be left there, literally to die. That’s not okay,” Moore said. “I know her mother’s whole world is shocked because they were very close.”

A 27-year-old TTC bus driver has since come forward to police.

The TTC released a statement on Saturday saying they are ”co-operating fully with police in their investigation. The bus has been identified and video from the bus downloaded to aid in the investigation.”

No charges have been laid.
