4 homeless deaths during city’s cold snap

Fire crews responding to a blaze in Toronto’s east end on Tuesday night discovered a body inside a burnt shed, bringing the number of homeless deaths to four in the past nine days during the cold spell.

It appears the man may have been sleeping in the shed and had built a small fire for warmth.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at McCowan Road and Sheppard Avenue around 10:30 p.m. when firefighters noticed flames coming from behind a building.

Once the flames were extinguished, the body was discovered.

This comes after three homeless people died last week due to cold temperatures.
